Dry Skin? 3 Ways to Treat Dry Skin This Winter

Depending on the part of the country you live in— hello 70 degree weather in New York— you might be getting pounded with serious amounts of snowfall. And although snow can be beautiful and enchanting during this time of the year in particular, it can also wreak havoc on your skin— causing it become dry and itchy. If you have dry, itchy skin, try these three tips in order to treat it this winter.

1. Moisturize Like There’s No Tomorrow
When it comes down to it, the best thing you can do to combat dry, itchy skin is to moisturize both morning and night. Look for a thick moisturizing cream that is good for all skin types— that way you don’t have to worry about it breaking you out. After you wash your face, gently pat it dry with a soft towel, and then add a thick layer of moisturizer over the top. Allow the moisturizer to sit on top of your skin for a minute or two and then rub it in. This will really encourage your skin to soak up all of the moisture.

2. Drink Lots of Water
Water is basically a cure all for a large assortment of things: fevers, a cold, a headache, and yes, even dry skin. By staying hydrated al lday long, your body will better be able to heal itself from skin ailments and will also be able to stay more moisturized. As a rule, and depending on your height and weight, it’s recommended that you drink eight 8 ounce glasses of water a day. Haven’t had your daily dose? Run to the drinking fountain right now!

3. Sunscreen
Even if it looks like a really overcast and gray day outside, the sun’s rays can still sneak from behind the clouds and damage your skin. Because the sun acts as a natural skin drying agent, it’s important to protect your skin from the sun by wearing a sunscreen every day. Whether you’re headed outside to shovel the sidewalks or you’re simply running errands in your car, don’t forget to put on your sunscreen!

Tighten Without Going Under the Knife

full-bodyFor many people, the thought of going under the knife only presents nightmares of a mad surgeon standing above them with a knife and crazy eyes, ready to cut into them. And although those nightmares are far from accurate, you don’t even have to think about going under the knife if you don’t want to. With laser treatments that can tighten your skin without having to undergo an extensive face lift surgery, you can have similar results without the fear.

How Does Laser Skin Tightening Work?

During the laser skin tightening process, you will be completely conscious. However, a topical numbing cream will be applied all over your face in order to help lessen the pain caused by the laser treatment. By penetrating the top few layers of skin, collagen is produced and the skin naturally tightens itself, leaving you with a smoother and more taut complexion.

Is it Painful?

Although it would be nice to claim that laser procedures are virtually pain-free, that’s unfortunately not true. However, as mentioned above, by applying a topical numbing cream agent over the top of the skin your skin will be somewhat numb and relaxed. However, the laser procedure itself might resemble that of rubber bands smacking against your skin.

What is recovery time like?

Recovery time for laser tightening is virtually nonexistent. In fact, although your skin might feel as if it has been sunburned for the first few hours after treatment, the discomfort will slowly subside and your skin will be back to feeling normal within just 48 hours. Your doctor will likely recommend that you apply a layer of cortisone cream across your face during the first few days in order to help speed up the process.

Laser skin tightening is a state-of-the-art tightening treatment that allows you to achieve the results you desire in just six sessions or less. If you’re considering laser skin tightening, contact our office today and schedule a consultation with one of our skin experts.
